The Phob Gamecube controller is a modded controller with consistent stick inputs that will not develop PODE over time, has built-in snapback filtering, 1.0 cardinals, notch calibration, built-in functionality for Z jump remap, various trigger options and more!

All the necessary parts will be taken from a brand new Black Smash Ultimate controller so it will essentially be a brand new controller and I will use the newest Phob board revision with the latest version of the software.

PRE-PURCHASE INFO
The Phob is only compatible with
Official Nintendo branded adapters
Handheld Legend GC Pocket
Input Integrity Lossless adapters

Mayflash adapters are supported by Phob too but these adapters are poorly made and can malfunction. Slippi players will have less of an issue with these adapters but Ultimate players will experience dropped inputs. It's not recommended but will work if you can't find or afford other adapters.

-Phobs require some additional maintenance

  1. You will need to recalibrate the stick every 1-2 months. This is best done in Smashscope, which can be used in Dolphin emulator with limited functionality or a homebrewed Wii with a CRT.
  2. Since the stickboxes aren't reinforced with soldered potentiometers, the screws can become loose over time and will need to be tightened occasionally. The frequency will depend on your playtime and stick movement intensity.

Info on warranty and some helpful links are at the bottom of the description.

Paracord
If you order a paracord cable, pick out your color here.

Please note that paracord with metallic tracers and reflective tracers aren't valid options. Their width is smaller than average, making it impossible to sleeve most of the time. You can put the link in a note in either your cart or checkout.

Trigger Mods
MX Cherry Trigger Mod
A mounted mechanical keyboard switch replaces the spring mechanism for the R or L triggers making for lighter presses and a more satisfying tactile feedback. Additionally, the input is registered near the top of the trigger press rather than the bottom.

The lowered input zone and reduced actuation force can be a blessing and a curse. It allows for more precise inputs since there's less movement required but it can also lead to mis-inputs if you accidentally tap the trigger in the heat of the moment. It's also possible to accidentally fat finger your Z jump and hit MX R in the process, leading to a potentially lethal air dodge.

Ultimate players are fine to get Double MX triggers with no penalty from game mechanics but there are some drawbacks or compromises if a Melee player wants double MX triggers.
~
Further MX trigger reading for Melee players
The Gamecube controller has two trigger inputs:
1. analog slider - light shield and optimal L cancel
2. digital pad at the bottom of the trigger - normal shield, wavedash, air dodge, techroll

The MX trigger mod can only be mapped to one type of input. So the ideal trigger layout is One digital MX trigger for wavedashes or shields and one traditional spring trigger that retains both analog and digital inputs to do everything else.

It's possible to have double MX triggers without drawbacks if you're willing to do the following:
1. Double digital triggers - L cancel & lightshield with Z
2. one digital, one analog trigger - wavedash out of shield by double tapping the digital trigger
-
No Trigger Mod
No mods are done and the OEM springs take roughly 150 grams of force to press. This is a reference point for the force required to press a trigger.
-
FIRES Triggers Mod
New springs with less resistance are installed, and the triggers are stabilized with the PTFE bearing tape to help smooth out the trigger motion and eliminate trigger jams. Furthermore, I lightly lubricate the inside sections of the trigger to further improve smoothness.

Normally, FIRES triggers are around 55 grams of force but I find this is too light and the trigger snaps back to neutral too slow. So I use additional o-rings to bring the tension to roughly 80 grams of force needed to press the trigger.
-
Trimmed and Lubed Triggers
THE SPRINGS ARE NO LONGER TRIMMED but the name will remain the same since Etsy makes it too time consuming to update listings. I now use Cardosi springs which feel the same and speed up the process.

Cardosi springs take roughly 120 grams of force to press. The triggers will then be lubricated with a dry silicone lubricant and the inside sections will be lightly lubricated with a PTFE lube to further improve the feel without destroying the silicone pads.

Extra Mods
Paracord sleeved cable
The rubber around the cable is replaced with 550 paracord to reduce tangles and improve the aesthetic.

Use this website to pick out paracord and send me a link or the exact name of color you want: https://www.paracordplanet.com/cord-color-chart/?cord=550

FIRES Slickbox
The OEM spring on the left stick will be replaced with a lighter L1 spring & shim that makes the stick easier to move. By default, I use the largest shim .03" to help balance the increased snapback with decreased stick tension.

If snapback is not a concern, then you have the option to request .025" and .02" shims for an ultra light stick.
These can be installed in the C-stick instead by request or in both sticks by request. More info in the "Addons" section below if you'd like double slickbox

MELEE PLAYERS: DO NOT ORDER THE L1 SLICKBOX IF YOU USE PIVOTS. Look below at L2 spring below.

An additional option is to request an L2 spring when you order the slickbox. The L2 spring feels closer to a new OEM spring but has a more linear tension, making quick tilts a bit easier but makes the physical movement to dash and pivot more difficult. If your thumb can handle the extra tension, it won't hurt pivot consistency.
-
Tactile Z
The original Z switch is swapped out with a more tactile, clicky press. The tactile Z switch does take more force to press. An OEM switch from an Ulitmate controller is roughly 60-70 grams of force to press without the metal spring, while the tactile Z is around 90 grams of force without the metal spring.

The life cycle of a tactile Z is a bit lower than an OEM. Tactile Z's are rated for a million cycles while the OEM Z's are rated for 3 million. So they won't last quite as long as OEM but they can be easily swapped out by me or another modder when they die.

All controllers come with a bent metal spring so it's not too hard to press Z unless you request that the spring be taken out.

--Addons--
These are mods that I couldn't include in the dropdown but can be added to your order by request with a custom invoice. They are not included in the "All Extras" option. Please message me about the bald & lettered buttons, black c-sticks, adapters and shells before ordering to see what I have in stock.

Notches for Melee
Wavedash notches: $40
Partial Firefox notches: $80
-This includes all notches except the two by the south notch.
Full Firefox notches: $100
-
Mouseclick Z - $35
The best option for Z jump. It offers a very satisfying click that requires about 60 grams of force to press. The switch is also rated for 5 million cycles, beating out the life span of the OEM Z switch.

There are some cons, though. First and foremost, the switch is mounted in place with a resin bracket and adhesives. This means that the switch can shift position over time and will need to be adjusted or replaced. Second, it is not compatible with resin Z buttons. Resin Z buttons are usually too thick and I will only use OEM Z buttons when installing the mod. The third con is that if you hammer on your Z too hard, you'll kill the switch much faster than 5 million cycles.
-
Digital Triggers - $20 - controllers with Ultimate MX triggers
If you want to use this controller for other games, then you will want the triggers to be wired for the trigger press to register as both analog and digital inputs. This will allow it to work as it should in Ultimate with the analog signal and allow the digital trigger inputs to be recognized in other games.
-
Bald buttons & Lettered buttons - $35
I keep a limited stock bald buttons done by ToastyTilapia and lettered buttons by Senor Retro. Pictures in listings may not reflect my actual stock, so send me a message if you'd like to see them.

These button sets include ABXYStart + Z + Dpad.
If ordered with Mouseclick Z, I will use an OEM purple Z but the resin Z will be sent with the controller.
-
Black C-Stick - $15
These are high quality black c-sticks made by SmashProof.
-
C-Pad - $30
Replace the c-stick with tactile directional buttons.

Split D-Pad - $20
This particular design splits the D-pad into 4 separate pieces that sit on top of the rubber pad. This eliminates savestate mis-inputs in Training Mode and Slippi chat.
You can view the source files here: https://github.com/HandHeldLegend/HHL-GameCube-Parts
-
Torx Screws - $15
Swap out the original controller screws with more durable Torx screws. They're less likely to strip but they can also be overtightened more easily, so be careful. Another caution: any controller modder that works on your controller after sale will secretly hate both of us, especially if they forgot to pack their Torx screwdrivers.
-
Trigger stoppers - Free with any controller order upon request
Smash Ultimate reads trigger inputs when the trigger is press about 50% of the way down. The trigger stoppers stop the trigger at that point, so you're actually bottoming out your trigger when it's registering an input. This mod is intended for Smash Ultimate players only.
-
Tall & short trigger plugs - Free with any controller order upon request
Tall trigger plugs sit directly on the digital pad, so there's no analog slider movement. Intended for wavedash or shield triggers. Ultimate players CAN request this but please let me know you're an Ultimate player so that I can adjust the Phob trigger settings. This does increase the difficulty to press the trigger by quite a bit.

Short trigger plugs restrict a lot of the trigger's movement but still allows for an analog input. Short trigger plugs can be installed to both triggers without any drawbacks.
-
Adapter - $55
I keep a limited stock of Lossless adapters by Input Integrity. These are some of the best aftermarket adapter available and they're one of the recommended brands to be used with Phobs. **This does not come with the USB-A to USB-C cable**

SHELLS
You may choose to add a different color shell for an additional cost. Please note that these shells are used but I will be as accurate as possible when describing the state of the shells that I have.

JP White shells: You have the choice of using the entire JP White controller to be modded or just the shell with parts from a brand new controller. I will use the cable since they're often in good condition and the JP White colored buttons and sticks, unless requested otherwise.

JP White Conversion - $20
The internals along with the shell/buttons will be used to make your controller.

JP White Shell - $50
Use just the JP White shell with internals from a new black Smash Ultimate controller. Cable and the JP white colored buttons/stick will be used unless requested otherwise.

Non JP White Shells
At his moment, I'm not offering the same deal as the JP Whites for the other shells. It's too difficult to consistently source good condition T3 controllers in these colors for a decent price. So until I get a good supply, this means the controller will still use the internals from a brand new controller but will have the color of shell that you want.

Due to the rusty plugs from these controllers, I won't be using them in the build. So if you'd like me to take off the black plug cover and move the emerald, indigo, or orange plug cover to the new cable it will be an extra $20

Emerald - $35
Indigo - $25
Spice Orange - $25
